Accessibility Statement
Our commitment
Focal Point aims to make thefocalpointhub.com, including the Photoclass course pages and the NomadCam project, usable by as many people as possible — including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or browser zoom, and people with motion sensitivity or low vision. We're targeting WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard most commonly used to judge website accessibility.
What's in place
As of this update, the site has:
- A "skip to content" link on every page, so keyboard and screen-reader users don't have to tab through the full navigation menu first.
- Proper landmark structure (a real
<main>region on every page) so assistive tech can jump straight to the actual content. - Keyboard support for the interactive NomadCam live map — arrow keys pan, plus/minus keys zoom, in addition to mouse and touch.
- A mobile menu that manages keyboard focus properly: opening it moves focus in, closing it returns focus to where you were, and it doesn't leave background content reachable by tab while it's open.
- Support for your device's reduced-motion setting, if you have one turned on.
- Labeled form fields and descriptive headings throughout.
Known limitations
This is an ongoing effort, not a finished checklist. A few things we know aren't fully verified:
- Color contrast over photo and gradient backgrounds (hero sections, for example) has been spot-checked but not exhaustively tested — automated tools are unreliable over image backgrounds.
- The logged-in NomadCam dashboard and admin pages share the same underlying template fixes as the rest of the site, but haven't been individually scanned since they require an account to reach.
If you run into something that doesn't work for you, we'd genuinely like to know — see below.
Feedback
If you hit an accessibility barrier anywhere on this site — something you can't reach with a keyboard, something a screen reader doesn't announce properly, anything that just doesn't work — please tell us: chelsea@clondon.me or find us in Discord. We'll do our best to fix it.
