Privacy & Cookies Policy
Who this covers
Focal Point (thefocalpointhub.com) is run by Chelsea London. This policy covers the main site, the blog, Photoclass, 52 Weeks, and NomadCam (the traveling-camera project at /nomadcam/). It doesn't cover third-party sites we link to, like Discord or Ko-fi — check their own policies for those.
What we collect
Just browsing the site: if you accept the cookie banner, basic analytics through Google Analytics — pages viewed, rough device/location info (from your IP), how you got here. If you decline, none of this runs. No account, no login required either way.
If you register for NomadCam: your name, email address, Discord username, mailing address, phone number, shipping capability/preferences, and social media handles (if you choose to share them). This is what's needed to run a mail-forward camera project — someone has to know where to ship the thing next.
If you upload a photo through NomadCam: the photo itself, any caption or location you provide, and — if present in the photo's own file — its embedded date/GPS metadata (EXIF). You control what's shared publicly per upload.
We don't collect payment information, passwords (login is via emailed link, not a password), or anything beyond what's listed above.
Who we share it with
Google Analytics — standard site-traffic analytics. Google's own privacy policy governs what they do with that data on their end.
Google Sheets / Google Apps Script — this is the actual database and backend for NomadCam registration, camera tracking, and login. Your registration info lives there.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim — when you type a location (or a photo has GPS data) on NomadCam, your browser sends that place name or coordinate to Nominatim's free geocoding service to turn it into a map pin. This happens directly from your browser, not through our servers, and isn't tied to your name or account.
The next person in line — if you're holding a NomadCam camera, the dashboard shows you the name, email, shipping address, and phone number of whoever's next in the queue, so you know where to send it. That's the whole mechanic of the project — it can't work without this handoff.
GitHub Pages — this site is hosted there. Standard web hosting logs (IP address, request info) may be collected by GitHub as part of running the service.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone beyond what's listed above.
Where it's processed: Google (Analytics, Sheets, Apps Script) and GitHub (hosting) are both US-based companies, so some of your data is processed outside the UK/EU. Nominatim is run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation, based in the UK. If you're in the EU or UK, this data is protected by Standard Contractual Clauses, which Google and GitHub both include in their standard terms of service for exactly this situation.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets a small number of cookies (like _ga and _ga_*) to tell repeat visits apart from new ones and measure how the site's used. That's the only cookie-setting activity on this site — no ad trackers, no cross-site tracking pixels.
Analytics doesn't run automatically for anyone — opt-in consent is required no matter where you're visiting from. When you first land on the site, a small banner asks whether that's okay. Nothing gets set until you click Accept — if you click Decline (or just ignore it), no analytics cookies are ever created. You can change your choice whenever you like: .
You can also block or delete these cookies in your browser's settings at any time, or use Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking them won't affect your ability to use the site.
NomadCam's login also uses localStorage (not a cookie, but similar in spirit) to keep you signed in on your dashboard between visits, and to remember your cookie choice on this site. Clearing your browser's site data will log you out and reset your cookie choice.
How long we keep it
NomadCam registration and camera-tracking data is kept for as long as the project is active, so the queue and shipping handoffs keep working. If you leave the project or ask to be removed, we'll delete your entry from the roster. Google Analytics data ages out on Google's standard retention schedule.
Your rights
You can ask to see what we have on you, correct it, or have it deleted — email chelsea@clondon.me and we'll sort it out. For NomadCam specifically, you can also opt out or remove yourself directly from your dashboard.
Deleting your NomadCam entry removes you from the roster and registration sheet. It doesn't retroactively pull data that's already been sent to a third party as part of normal operation (for example, Google Analytics pageviews already logged, or a shipping address already given to the person who mailed you the camera).
If you're in the EU or UK and think we've mishandled your data, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — in Ireland that's the DPC, in the UK it's the ICO. We'd rather you email us first so we can actually fix it, but it's your right either way.
Kids
This site isn't directed at children, and NomadCam registration isn't intended for anyone under 16.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
